Annette Tarpley is a highly experienced and board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with over three decades of diverse nursing and advanced practice experience. She holds additional certifications as a Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE), Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Adult (SANE-A), and Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (CLNC), reflecting her dedication to both clinical excellence and advocacy for vulnerable populations.
Ms. Tarpley earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Radford University, following her Associate Degree in Nursing from Marshalltown Community College. Her career spans a wide range of healthcare settings, including family medicine, behavioral health, urgent care, addiction recovery, corrections, and long-term care.
She has served in numerous capacities across Virginia as a Family Nurse Practitioner, providing psychiatric and primary care to patients of all ages from children to geriatrics. She is also well-regarded for her leadership in forensic nursing, having co-founded one of the first forensic nurse examiner programs in Southwest Virginia. Ms. Tarpley is recognized for her expertise in trauma-informed care, elder abuse prevention, and forensic documentation, frequently presenting on these topics at regional conferences, police academies, and academic institutions.
Ms. Tarpley’s commitment to service extends to roles as a clinical preceptor, expert witness, community educator, and mentor to nursing professionals. She is an active member of the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners, the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN), and the American Nurses Association.
